Jack London: 20th Century Man
Jack London: 20th Century Man is
a multi-part documentary for PBS that examines the extraordinary life
and work of one of the world’s most popular, yet misunderstood
writers. Best known for his classic adventure yarns The Call of
the Wild, White Fang, and The Sea Wolf, Jack
London’s life story was as varied and vivid as his tales of the
Klondike, Hawaii, and the South Seas. Although he was born the illegitimate
son of an impoverished, unstable mother and essentially educated himself,
through sheer drive London became the most famous, highest-paid and
most controversial writer in America. Drawing on recent biographical
materials and a new literary examination of London’s works, and
featuring interviews with leading scholars, historians, and London’s
descendants, this film paints a fresh portrait of an artist whose incredible
life story formed the template for his writing. Jack London is
produced by Holly and Chris Million and written and directed by Chris
Million.
